Originally named after its three founding partners, Standish, Prideaux and Pye, SPP Medical & Legal Books opened for business in 1974.

Establishing a reputation as Australia's leading student medical textbook and professional medical book supplier, and with over 35 years of service and experience, Standish, Prideaux and Pye was bought by Melbourne University Bookshop in 2008, enriching its already outstanding customer offering.

The purchase has enabled SPP's consolidation and focus on the provision of the best retail offering in Law and Medicine coupled with a continuing committment to customer service.

SPP Medical & Legal Books is now a department of the University of Melbourne. Unlike privately owned businesses, profits earned go back into the university community supporting the aims and endeavours of the university. Along with the Baillieu branch, SPP sponsors student societies as well as attending and organizing events, book launches and conferences both on and off campus.
